Amusing is a pretty good way to describe it. Last year Turkey made a boat… out of people. If that’s not amusing I don’t know what is.

It used to be that if the country was in Europe then they had an automatic pass into Eurovision. Now they have semi finals and stuff though because there are too many countries competing. The UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy still get an automatic pass though, cos we pay the most money to keep it running.

That post is actually a pretty good representation tbh.

It’s a big music show where everyone goes a bit nuts and neighbouring countries vote for each to win.

Ocassionally you get some real gems in Eurovision. Like Lordi (anyone remember them?), they were awesome, but mostly, it’s 3 1/2 hours of pretty poor music (on the whole), some dodgy staging and some awkward attempts at flattering the host country (bonus points for those who attempt it in the host countries language… although there’s not really any points for that).

People throw Eurovision parties. Seriously, people go a bit crazy over Eurovision.

I’m kinda hoping for fully filmed versions of Bombshell and Hit List. It’ll never happen but a girl can dream.

I think it’d also be awesome if they took one of the shows and tried to get it on Broadway. When the show was first announced, I thought that’s what they were actually gonna try to do with Bombshell.

You see, i’d say that was awesome (which in actual fact it would be) but i’d not get to see it so i’m being selfish and wanting them on TV. If it was on TV we’re probably more likely to get the people from SMASH in it too. If it went to Broadway they’d probably do a lot of recasting.

So a few months back I posted about a couple shows I was very much looking forward to. This past weekend it was finally time to take my seat to watch them. And they were so worth the wait. They were both amazing, but then were shows by Propeller ever going to be anything but? No, no they weren’t.

First of all, let me just point out that I bought the tickets in June of 2012 so it was a very long wait (or, if the reaction of a couple of the guys is to be believed then actually, the tickets were bought next month and we time traveled - I swear it should take more then one drink before this kind of thing).

So Friday night was Taming of the Shrew. I’d seen a couple of versions before this one and was left feeling a bit like they played up the comedy and brushed the dark side of the show under the carpet (or the actual bed sheets in one case). Not so with Propeller. Yes the comedy was played to full effect but then so was the other side. There were times when I felt genuinely uncomfortable about what was happening on the stage. Vince Leigh as Petruchio was actually a little bit terrifying at times and the change in Dan Wheeler’s Katherine was so beautifully done. His final speech had me completely mesmerised and I spent near enough 5 minutes just staring at the top of his head once he was done (he was kneeling with his head bowed).

Finn Hanlon just has something that was perfect for Lucentio. The scene during which he pretends to have sex with Arthur Wilson’s Bianca was remarkably funny (and the fact I could see them arranging themselves behind the ‘table’ just made it funnier). Speaking of Arthur’s Bianca, she was such a sassy little madam, I loved it.

During the interval of Shrew the company forgo their break to come out and sing for the audience and raise money for a charity (this years charity is Target Ovarian Cancer). This is always a delight for us watching (in the past we have been saluted which was fun). This time, we could only really see Lewis Hart, but he was up on a balcony, with a guitar and singing. Not totally against this.

The start of the second act is all about Joseph Chance’s chef, Curtis. He’s fabulous. Simple as that really (and a bit of a charmer).

Also have to give Ben Allen’s Biondello a special mention especially since the part was miscredited in a review and the rest of the company have been mocking him ever since.

After the show we ended up in the bar with the guys - they bought the drinks. Had a great time with them all, they’re all such great guys.

On Saturday was Twelfth Night, lighter then Shrew but still with some dark moments. The scene when Malvolio finds the letter is an absolute winner here with moving topless statues and a guy in a mask pretending to be a bird whilst waving his arms around - fantastic.

Gary Shelford (who finally got to wear a dress - and was very happy about it) delighted the house with his tap dancing Maria.

Joseph Chance took on the role of Viola in Twelfth Night. A man, playing a woman pretending to be a man brings an extra layer to that part and he was perfect. He often looked so lost and lonely that I just wanted to hug him. His ‘oh shit’ face when something about his being a woman slipped out was a picture.

Lewis Hart’s reaction to Chris Myles’ yellow stockings is the best reaction ever - obviously well rehearsed but utterly hilarious.

After the show we again ended up in the pub. I’m not entirely sure how some of them were still standing (up until the small hours drinking every night guys? Really?). Got to chat to everyone again (including Joseph this time) and terrified Vince Leigh before his journey home on the night bus.

All in all, it was a fantastic couple of days. Already had tickets to see both shows again in London in July, but today decided for definite to see them in Nottingham in half term. They’re just that good.

Okay, I may be in love with the way this guy does his shows because this looks AMAZING and now I want to see it.

I saw this a couple weeks ago. It was absolutely stunning.

(I think chances are reasonable that this one may get a DVD release at some point in the future. It’s brand new and has done amazingly well. Sold out everywhere)

So excited to see this. I don’t remember huge amounts about the last time I saw The Tempest (apart from who was in it and that I enjoyed it). I also studied it at school when I was 11 and found it so confusing. It was way beyond my ability to understand at 11 and I was one of the more able in the class.

Lets hope this production fairs better in my memory.

I know! I’m quite good at characters and I get the odd line here and there but otherwise the actual plot of stories is pretty rough going for me.

Got my fingers firmly crossed everyone likes it. If they don’t, well they aren’t really going to matter in the long run. When your shows are running on Broadway they’ll all come crawling back :)

I’m in the (very long drawn out) process of writing a short novel after the very last line of it popped into my head one day so I totally get where you’re coming from there. Hope the characters play ball for you, mine are very temperamental (hence why its taking so long).

How about you just end with him proposing the idea. He says it and end scene. I kinda like things like that. Things that don’t have a proper end frustrate me serious amounts but I absolutely love them. Seriously, can’t get enough. I can then choose how I want it to go based on my own opinions of the characters placed in front of me.

That might not work for you though, seeing as how theses were real people. Just throwing it out there.

You’ve worked really hard getting onto this study abroad programme and the experience you’ll get from it is arguably more important then anything you will learn in school. Especially if, long term, you want to do something with the Japanese language.

Also, don’t stress about spending an extra year in school if its something you really want to do.

I finished uni in 2009 with a degree I had no interest in pursuing and spent the next year trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I just went back to school in September to train to be a teacher. The people on my course range from just out of uni (so 21) up to people in their late 30’s.

I wish that i’d known earlier what I wanted to do. If I had figured it out when still at uni the first time I wouldn’t have hesitated in switching courses and spending that extra time at uni then.

I guess what i’m saying is that you need to really think about you and what you want. Don’t think about school. Think about what you want for you and the school plan will naturally follow on from that.

This is my small piece of advice from having been through a similar experience. Hopefully its helpful.

I’ve seen a bootleg of the original Broadway cast but i’ve not seen it live. I guess its kind of a double edged sword really. I probably have spoiled bits of it for myself but if I hadn’t seen/heard bootlegs I probably would never have thought about booking tickets until after it had opened and by then it would have been too late to get them.

Best I can do is ban myself from it up until I see it so i’ve avoided everything I could for probably about 2 months now.

I’m so excited about seeing it there is no way i’m going to be disappointed though, my brain just won’t let that happen. I even forked out for an expensive ticket I wanted to see it so badly.
